I'm brand new to East Boston and really looking forward to calling this great neighborhood home. I asked around about where to eat and while lots of places received an equal mix of great and not-so-great reviews, EVERYBODY seems to agree that Meridian Market is the place to go for a great sub.
I drifted in today to grab a sub for a friend. I asked Paul at the counter to recommend a hot sub. He immediately recommended the Meridian Special. I was able to get a gander at the sub as he had just finished preparing one for another customer. It looked great - jam packed with not-overly-breaded chicken cutlets, prosciutto, mozzarella, roasted red peppers, and fresh basil.
I delivered it to my friend later and he devoured it, declaring it perfect and delicious. He commented a few times that the chicken cutlet was very tender. (And he is a very picky and very critical eater. His praise of the sub is a solid sign that it was great.)
Although I didn't eat there myself today, I will no doubt be a repeat customer. I announced to the staff that I'm new to the area. They all happily welcomed me to the neighborhood and said they were glad to have me. The woman at the register told me to stop by any time, not just for food, but if I need any help settling into the area. And I could tell she really meant it. She then gave me some quick tips on some good spots to check out.
When I was leaving, they were all saying they look forward to seeing me again and once again welcoming me to the neighborhood.
A couple of side notes:
The place is very clean. There are some tables and chairs for in-house dining. They've got a great selection of soft drinks, desserts (I saw some cakes and maybe some pastries), they take credit cards, they have a very expansive menu, I was able to get a lunch/dinner sub at around 9:45 on a Saturday morning. -

This was my first time here. My husband eats here once a week. I have to say this the best sandwich I have had in a long time. I had the eggplant parmesan, everything about it was awesome.
The people who work here are super friendly. Was a great lunch time experience
Went again 7/28 got Italian tuna supreme omg it was amazing , hubby got a meatball sub that was outstanding.

My old lady and I were roaming around East Boston and caught a glimpse of a familiar eatery that I've frequented several times growing up. Meridian Food Market is one of the last vestiges of high quality Italian food that are left in east boston. RIP Sonny Notos.
Meridian Street Market is a place that you can confidently order just about anything and the portion size will be prodigious and the quality will be excellent.The staff and the owners are very helpful, enthusiastic, and friendly. -

Meridian food market is the best in East Boston.you want good Italian food my fiancé found a ten thousand dollar check outside meridian mkt they were so happy meridian mkt he turned it over to meridian mkt . They are a great place to get takeout or eat in. Great place better than Roys l haha at least meridian mkt appreciated my fiancé Freddy turning over a blank check because we are honest people.one more thing they treat me with respect and I give respect.
